FAQ

Switching questions, answered plainly

Why is up4 so much cheaper?
Because you buy different things. Pingdom sells bundles — uptime checks + “advanced” checks + SMS credits, in fixed tiers. We sell one thing, metered: checks sent, €9 per million. No bundle means no paying for the parts you do not use, and no tier jump when you need one more monitor.
Does up4 do transaction monitoring and page speed?
Honestly: no. Pingdom’s scripted browser transactions and page-speed film strips are real features, and if you rely on them, keep that piece of Pingdom. What we do — uptime, ping, cron & heartbeat monitoring, status pages, reports — we do at 10-second resolution for a fraction of the price.
What about Real User Monitoring?
We do not sell RUM. Our lane is active monitoring: we check your site so you hear about problems before users generate the data. If you need RUM, it pairs fine with us — most of our customers replaced only the uptime line of their Pingdom invoice.
Can I really check every 10 seconds?
Yes. On pay as you go every check is simply counted — 10 monitors at 10 seconds is €23.33 a month, printed before you confirm. On flat plans checks draw from the included budget (Team 20 million a month, Agency 66 million). No tier called Enterprise is involved.
Where do your checks come from?
German infrastructure in the EU, from published egress IPs with an honest user agent. A signed DPA for your contracts is a download. Pingdom is a SolarWinds product hosted from the US — for EU businesses that difference shows up in privacy reviews.
What happens to my data if I stop paying?
Monitors pause and everything waits: configuration, history, status pages. Nothing is deleted, and nobody runs a dunning sequence. Top up or restart the plan, and checks resume where they left off.
