FAQ

Questions about switching

Why does the same fleet cost less here?
Pingdom sells fixed tiers that bundle uptime checks, “advanced” checks and SMS credits. up4 meters one thing: checks sent, €9 per million. Without a bundle you do not pay for parts you do not use, and one more monitor does not move you to the next tier. At very short intervals the metered price rises with the check count; Team and Agency include budgets for that.
Does up4 do transaction monitoring and page speed?
No. If you rely on Pingdom’s scripted browser transactions or page-speed film strips, keep that part of Pingdom. What up4 covers (uptime, ping, cron & heartbeat monitoring, status pages, reports) runs with checks down to 10 seconds, priced per check.
What about Real User Monitoring?
We do not sell RUM, which collects data from real visitors. up4 runs scheduled checks from outside (active monitoring). If you need RUM, you can keep it at Pingdom and move only your active uptime monitoring to up4.
Can I check every 10 seconds?
Yes, within the plan’s volume limits. Pay as you go meters every monitor-region execution: the starting credit allows 50 monitors, and paid pay as you go has no monitor limit of its own once topped up; 10 single-region monitors at 10 seconds cost €23.33 in a 30-day month. Team supports up to 100 monitors with 20 million checks, Agency up to 500 with 66 million. A change that would push the projected 30-day check load past the plan budget plus packs (a new or resumed monitor, a shorter interval, another region) is refused until you add a check pack, change plan, lengthen an interval or drop a region. Monitors already running keep their cadence.
Where do your checks come from?
The application and primary database run in Germany. Checks run from the regions you choose per monitor (Germany, US, Singapore, Australia), from published egress IPs. Results stay in the EU: in Germany, and after seven days in an archive in Paris. See security and data locations and the current DPA status.
What happens if my balance runs out?
An empty balance never deletes your account, monitors, status pages or settings. After a first payment, monitors keep running for 7 days in grace mode (5-minute checks, alerts and status pages live) and then pause; on starting credit alone, the account pauses as soon as the credit is used up. History follows your plan’s retention: 62 days on pay as you go, 90 on Team, 365 on Agency. Top up or restart the plan and checks resume.
