Guide/How up4 decides

What costs money

up4 charges for what runs: checks, scheduled-job check-ins, incident screenshots and a few status page extras. Everything else is free.

What is charged

Every check type costs the same, whatever it checks. Prices are net; VAT is added at checkout where it applies.

WhatUnitPriceTeam and Agency
Checks (HTTP, keyword, body, TCP, DNS, ping)1 million executions€9From the included usage
Scheduled-job check-ins1 million accepted check-ins€3From the included usage

Plus a monthly minimum on pay as you go: each month costs at least €3, and usage counts toward it. Team and Agency charge their plan price and include usage worth €180 and €600 at list price. For Team that is about 20 million checks. The rest of this page is how the units are counted.

How checks are counted

  • A check is one run of one monitor from one region. A monitor that runs from two regions counts twice.
  • Failed checks cost the same as healthy ones. The extra runs that confirm a status change are executed checks and count.
  • A redirect or the retry with GET after HEAD inside one run is not an extra check.
  • Paused monitors run no checks and cost nothing. Checks that run in grace mode are free.
  • Monitors that up4 checks less often after slow responses cost less than the estimate. The Usage page says how many.

How check-ins are counted

A scheduled job reports to up4, so the count comes from your side. Every check-in up4 accepts costs the check-in rate, whether it reports success or a failure. A check-in that up4 rejects costs nothing, for example for an unknown or paused job.

How screenshots are counted

When an incident opens on a monitor with screenshots switched on, up4 tries once to capture the page. Only a successful capture is charged; a failed attempt costs nothing. On Team and Agency the included screenshots are a separate monthly allowance, not part of the check budget. When it is used up, new incidents get no screenshot until the next month, an upgrade or a screenshot add-on.

Worked examples

Each example is one month of 30 days on pay as you go. The amount in brackets is the check count and the rate.

SetupCost a month
One website, every minute, from one region€0.39 (43,200 checks a month × €9 per million)
20 client websites, every 3 minutes, from two regions€5.18 (576,000 checks a month × €9 per million)
One scheduled job that checks in every 5 minutes€0.026 (8,640 check-ins a month × €3 per million)

The first example is far below the monthly minimum, so a Company with only that monitor pays the minimum. The second is above it, so the Company pays the usage only. A job that checks in every five minutes adds a fraction of a cent. The monitor form shows the cost of a monitor before you save it, and Usage shows the month so far and a forecast.

What is free

  • Alerts on every alert channel, including e-mail, webhooks and chat tools.
  • Playbooks and team members. There is no price per seat.
  • Status pages without a business feature. A paid pay-as-you-go Company can publish up to 10 of them at once.
  • Whatever else up4 counts internally has no customer price.

SMS and voice alerts use your own Twilio account, so Twilio bills those messages and calls to you. up4 adds no charge on top.

What up4 does not do here

  • Estimates count a month as 30 days. Billing follows the UTC calendar month.
  • Usage is booked hourly. The current hour is not yet in the Usage page.
  • A Company on the starting credit pays the same prices as pay as you go, from the starting credit. See Credit and plans.
  • Allowances, add-ons and the protection limits are listed in Limits and allowances.
